The Day of Surgery
Dental implant surgery at our New York practice is methodical, well structured, stringently planned, and virtually painless. On the day of your surgery, Dr. Tischler will walk you through the process, step-by-step, to ensure your comfort and understanding. If dental anxiety will keep you from having a positive experience, sedation options, such as oral conscious sedation and IV sedation, are available to calm your nerves. These will be administered early in your appointment (or before, in the case of oral conscious sedation) to allow you time to get comfortable. Sedation dentistry options are designed to reduce your level of consciousness enough so that sensitive gag reflexes, fear of dental tools or needles, and anxiety during dental appointments all become manageable.
Once surgery begins, the goal is to work safely, yet quickly and efficiently, to minimize your time in surgery and maximize your results. The treatment plan that was created during your initial appointment will be followed as closely as possible - no surprises, no unnecessary stress. Small pilot holes will be created in the treatment location (in the case of mini dental implants, no such pre-drilling is required), through which your dental implants (titanium posts that act as artificial tooth roots) can be screwed directly into the jawbone. Dr. Tischler is so dedicated to perfection, that once he places your implants, he will follow up with a final CT scan to confirm that each one is exactly where it should be. Finally, your temporary restorations will be put in place to maintain the aesthetics of your smile during the healing period, and your surgery will come to a close.
The Finishing Touches
Typically, the time it takes for your implants to properly fuse to your jawbone (a process called osseointegration) is three months. The length of this period is entirely dependent on your individual needs, and will be discussed during your initial consultation. After osseointegration is complete, we will invite you back to our office to remove your temporary restorations and replace them with more permanent dental prosthetics. Whether you're receiving a Prettau® Implant Bridge, mini dental implants, or implant-supported dentures, your smile will have been fabricated in our in-office laboratory. Distinctive smile designs are created for every one of our patients, making certain that your smile accurately expresses your unique personality.
