Porcelain veneers
Porcelain veneers are the most conservative approach to changing a tooth’s color, size or shape. The veneers are bonded to the front of the teeth to mask any discolorations or shape change. They are also extremely resistant to staining. This is minimally invasive dentistry.
You’ll need three appointments to complete this procedure. At your first appointment, we’ll work with you to design the smile you’d like to have. This involves creating models of your mouth and taking photographs so we can do a digital rendering of what it could look like. The last thing we do on this appointment is to take a face bow transfer so the models can be placed on an articulator to show the dental laboratory your correct bite relationship.
On your next visit, we’ll conservatively shape your teeth and take a mold of them so that the laboratory can fabricate the veneers. Only .5-.8 mm of tooth reduction is needed for a porcelain veneer. During this visit we create beautiful temporary veneers that you now live with for two weeks. This appointment is important because we utilize the temporary veneers to guide our dental lab to permanent veneers. We spend a lot of time on the temporary veneers to ensure the final result is what you want. The other reason we spend a lot of time on the temporary veneers is so that for the time period the lab is creating the permanents, you can smile and eat confidently.
On your third visit, we’ll finalize the color and bond the porcelain veneers to your teeth. Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin shells of ceramic material which are bonded to the front of teeth. The main advantage of veneers over crowns is that they are conservative to tooth structure. Highly resistant to permanent staining from coffee, tea, or even cigarette smoking, the wafer-thin porcelain veneers can achieve a tenacious bond to the tooth, resulting in an aesthetically pleasing naturalness that is unsurpassed by other restorative options.
Why would you recommend a porcelain veneer? Porcelain veneers are an excellent alternative to crowns in many situations. They provide a much more conservative approach to changing a tooth's color, size, or shape.
